“Reading gives us some place to go when we have to stay where we are.”
Mason Cooley
I have always loved to read but I do it less and less as I have gotten older. I tell myself I just don’t have the time but, in reality, I often choose to do other things instead of reading. I binge watch a Netflix show or spend way too much time scrolling through social media.
This year I am setting the goal that I want to read (and finish!) 20 books. 20 books in 2020 has a nice ring to it. I only read a few books last year and I want to do better. I’ve already finished one book this year and I’m close to finishing another. I’m a little behind but if I read 2 books a month it should be doable.
My Plan
Here are some strategies I am going to use to read more:
- Setting a time every day to read. I am very routine oriented so setting a daily time to read will help me to stick to it.
- Listening to audiobooks. Audiobooks are a great way to “read” on the go. I love listening to audiobooks because I can do it at times when I can’t actually read, like when I am driving or getting ready in the morning.
- Keeping a book nearby. I have a book by my nightstand that I can easily grab to read right before bed. You can also keep a book or kindle in your purse to read during off times, like when you are waiting in a line.
What are some tips you use to read more?
